Revisiting the Iconic Spitzer Phase Curve of 55 Cancri e: Hotter Dayside, Cooler Nightside, and Smaller Phase Offset

چکیده
Abstract Thermal phase curves of short-period exoplanets provide the best constraints on atmospheric dynamics and heat transport in their atmospheres. The published Spitzer Space Telescope curve 55 Cancri e, an ultra-short-period super-Earth, exhibits a large offset suggesting significant eastward recirculation, unexpected such hot planet. We present our rereduction analysis these iconic observations using open source modular Phase Curve Analysis pipeline. In particular, we attempt to reproduce same instrument detrending scheme as original authors. retrieve dayside temperature ( T day = 3771 − 520 + 669 K), nightside ${T}_{\mathrm{night}\,}\lt 1649$?> night < 1649 K at 2σ), longitudinal planet's spot, quantify how they depend reduction detrending. Our reanalysis suggests that e has negligible spot $-{12}_{-18}^{+21}$?> 12 18 21 degrees east. small cool are consistent with poor expected planets. high 4.5 μ m brightness is qualitatively SiO emission from inverted rock vapor atmosphere.

Detection of a transit of the super-Earth 55 Cancri e with warm Spitzer⋆
We report on the detection of a transit of the super-Earth 55 Cnc e with warm Spitzer in IRAC’s 4.5 μm band. Our MCMC analysis includes an extensive modeling of the systematic effects affecting warm Spitzer photometry, and yields a transit depth of 410±63 ppm, which translates to a planetary radius of 2.08 −0.17 R⊕ as measured in IRAC 4.5 μm channel. A planetary mass of 7.81 +0.58 −0.53 M⊕ is d...
متن کاملDynamics of the 55 Cancri System
Recent studies of the 55 Cancri system suggest the existence of three planets with periods of ∼15 days, ∼45 days, and ∼5500 days (Marcy et al. 2002). The inner two planets are near the 3:1 mean motion commensurability and it is likely that these two planets became trapped in the resonance while farther from the star and migrated together. As the innermost planet begins to dissipate energy throu...
متن کاملSpitzer Irac Sparsely Sampled Phase Curve of the Exoplanet Wasp-14b
Motivated by a high Spitzer IRAC oversubscription rate, we present a new technique of randomly and sparsely sampling the phase curves of hot Jupiters. Snapshot phase curves are enabled by technical advances in precision pointing as well as careful characterization of a portion of the central pixel on the array. This method allows for observations which are a factor of approximately two more eff...

3.6 AND 4.5 μm PHASE CURVES OF THE HIGHLY IRRADIATED ECCENTRIC HOT JUPITER WASP-14b
We present full-orbit phase curve observations of the eccentric (e ∼ 0.08) transiting hot Jupiter WASP-14b obtained in the 3.6 and 4.5 μm bands using the Spitzer Space Telescope. We use two different methods for removing the intrapixel sensitivity effect and compare their efficacy in decoupling the instrumental noise. Our measured secondary eclipse depths of 0.1882% ± 0.0048% and 0.2247% ± 0.00...
